This afternoon Trafiklab was awarded this year’s Guldlänk by IT Minister Anna-Karin Hatt. Many thanks, and it’s fantastic to see the focus on Open Data!

From the press release by the e-Delegation:

Guldlänken goes to Trafiklab

On 30 May, during the Offentliga Rummet conference in Uppsala, Trafiklab was named the winner of Guldlänken 2012. The award, which among other things includes dissemination support worth SEK 100,000, was presented by the Minister for IT and Energy, Anna-Karin Hatt.

The jury’s motivation for the winner was: “For having taken on the role of a role model and shown how an important sector of society can use open innovation and open data for renewal and to create new energy in business development, Trafiklab is named the winner of Guldlänken 2012!”

Trafiklab is an extensive collaboration project that includes most of the actors in Swedish public transport. The aim is to increase public transport travel, among other things by enabling the development of better travel services. Instead of developing its own services, Trafiklab works on creating easy access to traffic data via open APIs. Among other things, it has organised the much-noticed Travelhack event, where some 20 new services were developed.

In total there are already plenty of very different kinds of services, developed by a wide range of actors, that use the data sources Trafiklab has opened up. The process also includes an interesting collaboration with applied research. Besides offering a resource for service developers, Trafiklab also reaches out to the general public to gather ideas for new travel services.
